RevieWednesday: Sonic CD (Sega CD 1993/PC 2011)

So the plot of Sonic CD is that there's planet that goes around Mobius occasionally and Dr. Robotnik decides to take it over for its time displacement properties. Then Sonic comes then there's an expy of future Sonic fans, Amy Rose who gets captured by Metal Sonic. So yeah, Sonic beats Robotnik's butt and goes time traveling to some kick ass CD quality music (assuming you have the Japanese/European soundtrack, the American one is kinda crap, just like our economy!).

POSITIVES:
The Non-American soundtrack is awesome sounding. The special stages show what the Sega CD can do with scaling and a mode-7 esque thingy. Its graphically nice, Sonic is the same from Sonic 1 and I really like some of the enemy's designs.

NEGATIVES:
The American soundtrack sounds like utter balls and there's only two songs that are ever decent. Almost all the levels past Collision Chaos are so maze like, they are better suited for a Metroid game than anything else. Despite the game's use of saves, it doesn't save your lives. Meaning the game hopes you can make through Metallic Madness with only THREE LIVES! Assuming that you are trying to get the good future, more like good luck! At least the game gives you a suicide button (Start + A) so you start over, hoping you have the excess lives for the means to do so! I can't get the good ending without some use of a map.

VERDICT: 3.6 out of 5 Stars
"Get the PC remake, it has the better soundtrack, the Sonic 2 spindash (as opposed to the spin charge). And you don't have to go anywhere to find the maps online! Just press the start key to lower it and head onto your browser or just use the Steam guide if you bought it on Steam! The original version is a challenge, I'll tell you that!"
