The game kicks off with Sam Chazlar, a clerk at the White Plateau research facility. The same scientific research company that discovered these crystals dubbed "Chaos Emeralds". Named so for their erratic energy readings. Sam is called to the lab, Dr. Gerald Kintobor is out for lunch, so his assistant, Ulrich Nevile Owen (U.N. Owen for shorthand), gives you the device used for transporting the emeralds. Saying that it is old, and if Sam wants, he can have it. Sam goes into a storage closet, only to find that the door behind is stuck shut. Sam goes into into a capsule to nap in for the time being...only to wake up 100 years into the future.
